Popular Beaches In The USA

The U.S. prides itself in having numerous and varied natural wonders from scenic mountains, national parks to long stretches of beach. Although not a tropical country, it has countless beaches that are popular among vacationers.

Hawaii boasts of several beaches but its best is the Kaanapali Beach that stretches 3 miles. Located in Maui, Kaanapali features a lava formation called Black Rock that divides the beach in two. The main beach was developed as a community with a golf and beach resort, hotel, condominium and shopping center all in one place. Various types of activities like surfing, swimming, sailing and snorkeling can be done at the beach.

Waikiki is another famous beach of Hawaii located on the main island of Oahu in Honolulu. The two-mile long white sand beach is one of the world’s most populated beaches accommodating four million visitors every year. It’s a blend of customs, culture, cuisine and languages when people of varied races flock together in this beach.

California in the west coast is one state that has amazing beaches to boast of. The Laguna Beach is one of the most unique and awesome beaches in Southern California with 30 public beaches and coves along its coastline that stretch for over six miles. It is home to California’s oldest art museum and the well-known Laguna Playhouse.

Who could not remember the famous Malibu Beach? This 27-mile long beach on the Pacific coast of California, west of Los Angeles and north of Santa Monica is now the home of celebrities. Thanks to some TV series and movie scenes, Malibu Beach truly made a name for itself as a popular beach destination. Apart from surfing, visitors can also go swimming, strolling, bird and whale watching as well as salt water fishing. Malibu was originally named “Humaliwo” meaning “the surf that sounds loudly” courtesy of California’s first inhabitants, the Native American Chumash Indians.

Florida holds the record as the state with the most number of beaches. Miami Beach is one of the Florida’s popular seascape destinations. With its 300-foot wide shoreline and more than six miles of beaches, Miami Beach is best for swimming, surfing, fishing, biking, trail walking, boating, yachting, golf and tennis. Latino singers Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan are among the famous celebrities who own restaurants in this area. A famous landmark there along the Ocean Drive is the Art Deco Historic District that has 800 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Daytona Beach is also one of the world’s most popular beaches. Vacationers there can do a wide variety of activities like fishing, parasailing, jet skiing, scuba diving and surfing. Traffic is allowed on a big part of the beach for a small fee.

New York has its renowned Coney Island which is a beach, amusement center and a neighborhood rolled into one. The beach accommodates hundreds of thousands of visitors especially during the summer. Located at the southern tip of Brooklyn, Coney Island also features the famous 150-foot tall Deno’s Wonder Wheel as well as other amusements for children.

South Carolina also has its Myrtle Beach spanning 60 miles of shoreline along the “Grand Strand.” This beach is said to get more visitors daily compared to Hawaii. It also has 47 golf courses, 120 of which are championship courses. Water sports that can be enjoyed by the entire family there include swimming, surfing, sailing, pontoon boating, jet skiing and fishing.
