London. The Heart of Pop Culture

London is without a doubt the most widely recognized city in the world. After all, who hasn’t seen pictures of London’s famous double decker buses, Big Ben, or the Queen’s guards? Still, London is characterized by much more then its pop icons. London is over 2,000 years old. Making its mark on the world as a busy port town during the Roman Empire. Today, remembrances from London’s various ages exist all around the city. London is a truly cosmopolitan city. Though London honors its past, the cit y leaped into the 21st century with a running start.

Over 7 million people from all different backgrounds and ethnicity call London.

home. Many first time visitors are surprised by how multicultural the city is. However, diversity has long been a part of London’s culture, dating back to the arrival of the Roman legions during the 1st century. Londoners embrace the city’s diversity but still celebrate London’s inherit charm.

Complete with its distinct black taxicabs and unique red phone booths on every corner, London has perhaps more to offer visitors than any other European city. England’s capital is one of the most widely visited tourist destinations, for a good reason. One could e asily spend their entire visit just trying to decide what do to. The city has countless tourist attractions including the famed Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower Bridge, to name a few. The London Underground is the best way to get to the sights. The Tube has stops nearby all the major attractions. In addition to its main attractions, the city offers dazzling art museums, theater, superb shopping, trendy restaurants, and a nightlife that’s second to none.

After you get your fill of the sights, you may want to spend part of the day shopping on Oxford Street or at Harrods, the world’s largest department store. London is a shoppers dream. Though, the stores and sidewalks are almost always congested. You may want to duck into a nearby pub along the way. London has over 3,000 bars and pubs so you shouldn’t have any problems finding one. In the evening, have dinner at one of the swank restaurants around Piccadilly Circus. Afterwards, take in a show at one of the theaters around Covent Gardens or checkout one of Brixton’s hot dance clubs. With all the choices available, everyone will experience London differently. Regardless of how you choose to experience London, the makings are there for a rich and rewarding visit.

Mauritius for a Great Family Vacation Hotel

Mauritius, and great family vacation are synonymous, always providing you have the money. The Beau Rivage Hotel is a very good example of what is meant by that. This is a very beautiful hotel, almost better than the photographs which isn’t something that can be said very often.

The whole place is quite beautiful, the beach is as good as it looks, and the staff extraordinarily helpful, polite, and the service is immaculate.

If you have never gone east from the UK to the Indian Ocean or the far East you will be staggered at how lovely the hotels are, even when they aren’t absolutely top five star palaces, and how brilliant the service is.

The Beau Rivage makes for...............

A superb small Beachfront Hotel on Aruba

Looking for a small hotel, looking for a beachfront vacation, then you need to hear about Aruba, one of the most southerly islands in the Caribbean, part of the Dutch Antilles, and one of the three islands that makes up the ABC Islands. The ABC Islands consists of Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire, and they are located just north of the coast of Venezeula in South America, and very accessible from the eastern Seaboard of the United States. The Dutch or Netherlands Antilles are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands but with full autonomy in their internal affairs.

About New Zealand

Here you'll find some background information on New Zealand, which we hope you will find useful in planning your New Zealand Vacation.

Geography
New Zealand is a long narrow country lying roughly north-south. Consisting of the North and South Islands (and a number of smaller islands), it covers 103,736 square miles (268,675 square kilometres) and is 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometres) long. It covers an area slightly larger than the United Kingdom.

New Zealand is situated in the South Pacific, approximately 6,500 miles (10,400 kilometres) south west of North America and 1,400 miles (2,250 kilometres) east of Australia.

Discovery
The Dutch navigator, Abel Tasman, sighted and named New Zealand in 1642. However, it was not until 1769 that Captain James Cook charted the coastline and explored the country. Whalers and traders began to arrive on New Zealand's shores soon after Captain Cook.

The first European setters arrived in the early nineteenth century at the Bay of Islands and established missionary stations in the area. Mass immigration occurred shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840.

Population
New Zealand has a population of approximately 4 million people, three quarters of whom live in the North Island, one of the two main islands. New Zealand Maori make up approximately 10% of the population, and Polynesian people approximately 4% of New Zealand's multi-cultural society. Chinese, Indian and Asian ethnic groups are increasing in population size within New Zealand.

Time Zone
New Zealand is exactly twelve hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. In summer, early October to late March, we enjoy an extra hour of daylight saving, to extend the warm summer evenings.

Climate
New Zealand has a particularly clear and unpolluted atmosphere with average daily sunshine hours ranging from seven to eight in summer and four to five in winter.

Ranging from subtropical in the north to temperate in the south, the mean summer temperature is 23° Celcius (74° Farenheit) and 14° Celcius (57° Farenheit) in winter. Seasons are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere - winter is between June and August and summer is between December and February.

Government
A British Colony since 1840, New Zealand declared national sovereignty in 1947, but remains a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth as head of state. Recently, New Zealand replaced the previous 'first past the post' electoral system with a new mixed member system of proportional representation. There are now several mainstream political parties - National and Labour, who were the 'traditional' parties along with more recent political parties including New Zealand First, the Alliance and the Greens. The current government is a centre-left coalition between Labour and the Alliance.

The Economy
Even though well over 80% of New Zealanders live in towns and cities, agricultural products are the basis of New Zealand's economy and is the biggest export earner. That's not surprising when you consider that one third of the country's total area is sown in pasture and that sheep out number people by twenty five to one!

Tourism, forestry, horticulture, fishing and manufacturing have become increasingly important sectors in the economy in recent years. Australia is New Zealand's largest export market, followed by Japan, Asia, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Parc Asterix

Parc Asterix

Francophiles, fans of the popular French cartoon character Asterix or families seeking a theme park experience sans mouse ears should head to Parc Asterix, just north of Paris. The park features all the characters from the comic books and their playful twist on Gallic history and mythology. Likewise, the rides have names that are far more sophisticated than what you'd find in an American theme park. Rides are named Flight of Icarus, Caesar's Spies, and Descent Along the Styx. The latest attraction is the La Trace du Hourra, which is a bobsled-type ride that races down a tube of metal sheeting at 54 kph.

In addition to the rides, there are shows such as the "Theft of Mona Lisa" and a Musketeers show. The park also has a hotel, the Three Owls, located in the forest that borders the park; 40 candy stores; and six restaurants, from a grill to a pizzeria.

A one-day adult pass is 30 euros ($26); kids age 11 and up are 22 euros ($19.) Two-day passes for adults are 56 euros ($49); kids are 40 euros ($35). Season passes are 65 euros ($57) for adults and 45 euros ($41) for kids.

Chateau Yvetot

This magnificent 7 hectare family historical chateau in Normandy has a heated pool and all the comfort you wish for, indoors and out. Listed as a 17th century monument, the castle and its grounds have been in the same family for 500 years-- indeed, the most recent Comte and Comtesse occasionally inhabit a private wing of the chateau.

The property itself is like a jewel set in the midst of lush greenery: guests will enjoy strolling through seven hectares of landscaped garden surrounding the chateau, planted with rare trees and scattered with romantic 19th century follies-- including a stream and a small, child-sized stone manor! There is also a chapel, a temple to Neptune, and a terrace on the bank of the stream. Vegetable gardens are housed in superb 19th century greenhouses, while the beautiful heated swimming pool (12m x 6m, 1-2m deep) is equipped with elegant Roman steps.

The grounds also include a covered games room, swings, and a sand pit. The landscaped property is surrounded by cultivated fields and apple groves belonging to the property. Naturally, all of this gorgeous land needs plenty of care-- so the gardener and his friendly dogs live on site.

(600 m2) The decor of the chateau combines local crafts (such as traditional hand molded tiles) with the most prestigious names in international interior decoration: Rubelli fabrics, Murano chandeliers, Aubusson-style carpets, and more. There are also many period antiques and furnishings designed by the owner himself, an architect. The entire house is also equipped with a Wi-Fi connection, for the convenience of those bringing laptops.

Ground Floor:
The entry to the chateau is via a double hall in Carrara marble. To the right of the hall is a spacious dining room, seating up to twenty guests. A large kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, oven, stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, and a table seating eight. To the left of the entrance hall, there is a large billiard room decorated with historic arms. There are two guest bathrooms, each with a sink and a toilet.

First Floor:
Upstairs, a wide landing opens into a large drawing room/library with Louis XVI wood paneling and a Carrara marble fireplace. There is also a Louis XV music and games room. This floor is also host to the master bedroom, which contains a 160 cm queen-size bed and an additional 90 cm twin bed. It has an en suite bathroom containing a bathtub with a handheld showerhead. The WC is separate.

Second Floor:
On this floor there are a total of seven bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom (including towel warmer and bathtub with handheld showerhead) and toilet. The first bedroom has a 150 cm small queen size bed. The second room has a 100 cm large single bed. The third room has a 135 cm four poster bed, best suited for sleeping one. The fourth room contains two 90 cm twin beds that can be combined to form a king-size bed upon request. The fifth room has a 160 cm queen-size bed. More Of Our South Maui Beach Walk

If you've just joined our South Maui Beach Walk, go back a couple of posts to see what you missed. For those of you walking with me, we have rounded the corner from Wailea Point, and we look down upon the beautiful beach fronting the very glamorous Four Season's Resort. This is Blogtrotter's favorite so he commented, and it's much less kid-friendly than the following hotel we come across next-- the Grand Wailea Resort, and that is the buildings of the GW in the distance, not the Four Seasons.

I've posted many photos of the Four Seasons in other posts (as it's one of my favorite resorts too!), so we're moving on....

We look to our left and see the way khool trampoline in the ocean in front of the Grand Wailea Resort. I've always wanted to swim out and try this one out, but I've never done it yet. I'll have to do this someday. Doesn't it look like fun?
And to our right, we see families playing in a kid-friendly beach/lagoon creation of the Grand Wailea Resort.
The Grand Wailea Resort has great water features and a slide if you're into that kind of thing. Count me in for water slides. Love them! My inner child is alive and well.

Notice the clothing on these children? The Maui sun can burn your skin very fast, and these children are wearing protective clothing.

Join me tomorrow for more South Maui Beach Walk.

Napa Valley Romantic Getaway Vacation Tips and Ideas

The Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery (Phil Freund)The Traveling Mamas were asked a good question following the article Napa Valley, the Perfect Romantic Getaway Spot in California. Ed wrote, “Hi! I am thinking about a long weekend in late September with my girlfriend. I have been to the Napa/Sonoma area a number of times, but she has never been. I have stayed at Meadowood and the Sonoma Mission Inn, most recently about 3 years ago. Would love your thoughts on other perhaps more quaint places to stay and other specific restaurant and vineyard recommendations. Thanks - Ed”

After sending this reader a response, I thought it may also be helpful to other readers seeking a romantic vacation and culinary experience. Please find, below, the tips and ideas I offer for a great long weekend in Napa Valley, California.

Hi there, Ed,

First off, I think it’s a great idea to treat your girlfriend to a long, romantic weekend in Napa Valley.

Since you’ve stayed at the Meadowood Resort, I’m guessing you like classy yet comfortable lodgings, rather than big monolith hotels. It’s also a luxury-class hotel, so I think you’re willing to spring for a high-end weekend. Try the Carneros Inn - it’s at the foothills of Napa Valley, in Carneros (most of the Napa Cabernet is made there because it’s hotter during the Spring and Summer). The Carneros Inn is no Auberge - but it’s a more private, and romantic resort hotel too. The breakfast at one of its restaurants is considered one of the best breakfasts in all of Napa Valley. The restaurant is the Boon Fly Cafe.

You’ve heard of the French Laundry, of course, I didn’t eat there, but it’s supposed to be either the Bouchon is a Best Restaurant in Napa Valley, California (melmansur)best, or the second best restaurant in the world. Yes, the world! I couldn’t get in; you need to call 2 months in advance for a reservation, unless you get very, very lucky. Also, it’s massively expensive. Bouchon is a wonderful alternate restaurant, and just down the road in the Yountville town of Napa Valley (the best restaurants in Napa Valley tend to be in Yountville). There are a couple other restaurants in Yountville that are fantastic; Redd and Ad Hoc. With Ad Hoc, however, you get what you get. Check out the menu before you go in: There’s only one entree each day, so if you don’t like salmon (or whatever), you’re out of luck. It is very, very good, though. Bouchon also has a bakery for breakfast. This is next to the Bouchon restaurant; It is popular, and you’ll usually have to wait in line to get your morning croissant or muffin. Mustard’s Grill is another really good restaurant; it’s fun and mellow.

For lunch, my favorite restaurant is called Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen. This is in St. Helena - rather than Yountville - which has the cutest stores of all the Napa Valley towns.

Let’s see, what else…Well, please don’t miss the Joseph Phelps Winery and Vineyards for a wine tasting (make an appointment). It’s really beautiful, with remarkable views of rolling hills and the vineyard. Relax in the shade and you’ll think you’re in Umbria or Tuscany. The absolute oldest of Napa Valley’s wineries is Beringer. You need an appointment, but it’s very nice. Casa Nuestra is nice too. But my favorite? I most liked Francis Ford Coppola’s Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery; the main building features a small film museum with a couple of zoetropes, movie memorabilia, and other items of interest for film history buffs. This is the old Inglenook winery, so there’s a lot of history and heft to the place. It’s simply gorgeous - spring for a wine tasting/wine pairing tour if you can. I found the tour to be simultaneously fun, relaxed, and educational. I learned a lot about how to appreciate wine there.

Napa Valley is one of the most romantic US getaway vacation destinations for wine aficionados and fans of culinary travel. Hopefully, these tips and ideas for what to do there will be helpful for travel plans.

Barbados Luxury Vacation "An Experience of a Lifetime"

Some of us are fortunate enough to be able to afford a Barbados luxury vacation....A vacation filled with pampering conceirge services and spa treatments...A vacation of a lifetime!

Amongst these fortunate ones are many actors, actresses, atheletes and musicians who choose to enjoy their lavish vacations in Barbados between films, sports seasons and concerts.

Past stars that have visited the island....and vacationed in style of course....include Simon Cowell, Tiger Woods and Madonna.

There are also a large number of wealthy business owners, such as Richard Branson, who frequent this Caribbean island spending their time staying in one of Barbados' luxury communities in a luxury Barbados vacation villa or at a Barbados luxury resort.

So if you too have been blessed with the opportunity to experience a luxury vacation in Barbados let us see what this island has in store for you.....

Which Coast Is The Most Popular For A Barbados Luxury Vacation?

Barbados Luxury VacationWhen planning a luxury vacation in Barbados visitors tend to choose The Platinum West Coast. This coast has the most beatuiful blue lagoon waters, powder-white sandy beaches and the most lavish amenities. This is Barbados' premier coast failing to disappoint and keeping the rich longing for more.

However the south coast of Barbados should not be ruled out as an option as it does have a handful of popular luxury hotels including The Crane Resort and The Hilton Barbados Hotel.

Climb Aboard Your Private Jet

A great start to any Barbados luxury vacation is a top class plane ride to the island. The best way to experience this is aboard a private jet charter flight.

Barbados Luxury Private JetBarbados private jet charter flights are definitely the most comfortable way to travel to Barbados. These private jets are spacious with leather seats and a friendly crew to serve you.

They also provide you with peace of mind.

You won't have to worry about a commercial airline losing your luggage as they tend to do these days. Your bags will be the only bags aboard your private jet. You also won't have to worry about that annoyingly long wait for your luggage to be taken off the aircraft and placed on the bagagge claim conveyor belt.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to own a private jet to fly to Barbados in one. You can simply rent one. There are a number of private jet chartering companies with a fleet of luxury aircrafts that you can arrange this through.

Whiz Through The Airport!

Now that you have safely arrived in luxurious comfort and style aboard your private charter jet why wait hours to get through customs and immigration in the airport?

You want to get your Barbados luxury vacation started as soon as possible!

Barbados Luxury Concierge ServiceNow the fastest way to get out of the airport is by using a Barbados luxury concierge service. This can usually be arranged through your private charter flight company or an independent local service.

Through such a service, a representative will meet you in the arrivals terminal and escort you and your family through immigration. This will mean you won't have to wait in line like everyone else.

You will then collect your luggage, which will only take a minute or two since you took a private jet, and be escorted through customs and out of the airport.

Sounds pretty sweet doesn't it?

You can also use a concierge service at the end of your Barbados luxury vacation for a relaxing departure back home from the island.

Off To Your Barbados Luxury Accomodation in Style

Now that you have made it to Barbados safe and sound and you have been escorted through the airport arrivals with your bags in hand, it is time to head off to your Barbados luxury accommodation.

You have two choices here. You can either arrange an exclusive Barbados luxury limosuine / car to pick you up or have your Barbados luxury rental car waiting for you outside the airport.

If you choose to be chauffeured to your accommodation by luxury airport pickup, you can have a concierge service arrange it. If you prefer to drive yourself and want to have a vehicle during your stay you can book your luxury rental car and have it ready when you arrive.

I Want To Stay Where The Rich And Famous Stay!

I consider the most important part of a luxury vacation in Barbados to be where you choose to stay. No matter where you are travelling too if you choose the wrong place to stay your vacation could be very far from luxurious. You therefore are going to want to stay at either a respected luxury Barbados hotel or Barbados luxury vacation villa.

When choosing a luxury hotel in Barbados , some of you may want to stay where the wealthy do for their Barbados luxury vacation.

Well as you know most stars choose world famous, exclusive Barbados luxury hotels and there is no other luxury hotel on the island that keeps Barbados in the spot light of the rich and famous like The Sandy Lane Barbados Spa and Golf Resort.

Barbados Luxury Vacation Sandy Lane ResortThe Sandy Lane Hotel is undoubtedly the #1 choice by the wealthiest vacationers the island has been honoured to entertain.

This luxury resort is featured in almost every Caribbean luxury travel magazine and has hosted the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt as well as David Bechkam and Posh Spice.

But the most notable visit this Barbados luxury resort has seen was in Ocober of 2004. This was when world champion golfer Tiger Woods decided to book the entire resort for his wedding to swedish model Elin Nordegren!

The Sandy Lane Hotel is a 5 Diamond AAA rated Barbados hotel and currently is the most expensive hotel on the island averaging rates of $1,200 USD a night and up.

The luxury hotel has a spa, 4 restuarants and 5 bars. It also has 3 golf courses including the famous Green Monkey Golf Course and The Country Club Course, where the 2006 Golf World Championship was hosted.

There are a number of other Barbados luxury resorts along The Platinum west coast of the island that you could choose from to enjoy your Barbados luxury vacation.

The most noteable of these are owned by British multi-millionaire hotelier Michael Pemberton. Michael has established himself in Barbados as one of the greatest investors in the island's Tourism industry. He has a collection of Barbados luxury hotels under his belt.

Fairmont Royal Pavilion Hotel BarbadosThese include The Fairmont Royal Pavilion Hotel. This is a convenient choice if you are a member of The Fairmont President's Club.
The Royal Pavilion is a 4 Diamond AAA rated Barbados luxury resort with 72 oceanfront guest rooms feauturing private balconies and terraces.

This luxury hotel has 2 restaurants with oceanviews and offers guest complimentary afternoon tea at the poolside.
Royal Westmoreland Championship Golf Course is nearby where guests can book tee off times through the hotel. This is one of the island's premier 18 hole golf courses at par 72 and 6,870 yards.

One downside of The Royal Pavilion Hotel as compared to Sandy Lane Hotel is that there is no on site spa.

The Crane Barbados Luxury HotelIf you do decide to stay on the south coast of the island, The Crane Hotel is the top choice for a south coast Barbados luxury vacation.

The Crane Hotel is a 5 star Barbados luxury resort set atop a cliff overlooking the ocean and sandy white Crane beach. This Barbados luxury hotel is situated at the southern tip of the island.

The hotel has a great design resembling a large, majestic castle with its tall Roman style columns.

You can choose between the resort's 1887 Resort Apartments or its Private Residences. If you want the ultimate in Barbados luxury the private residences are the choice for you.

Disney

Disney

What can we possibly say about Disney that hasn't been said before? There's a reason why when most people think of "theme park" they think of Disney. Nobody does it better. All four locations (Anaheim, Calif., Orlando, Fla., Tokyo and Paris) are staggeringly huge and have everything from rides, games, restaurants, animals and water parks to learning centers and spas, all with the backdrop of the ubiquitous mouse and kids clamoring for Disney-related merchandise.

Walt Disney World in Orlando consists of four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Disney-MGM Studios. Disneyland in Anaheim recently added a California Adventure Park that taps into the Golden State's obsession with outdoor thrills, such as hang gliding and white-water rafting (what next? Wheat-grass shots in mouse-shaped cups?). Despite a bumpy beginning, when mouseaphobic protesters nearly shut down the rail system, Euro Disney eventually became a moneymaker. It's now renamed Disneyland Paris, and in early March a new park, Walt Disney Studios, opened right next door. (Vive le Mickey, n'est-ce pas?)

Disney is even bigger in Japan. Today Tokyo Disneyland is the most visited amusement park in the world, with over 17 million visitors in 2001 (according to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions). The company also has plans to build a park in Hong Kong, which just goes to show that mouse ears have become an international currency.

Prices for one-day admission are $45 for adults and $35 for ages 3-9 at Disneyland. Walt Disney World is $48 for adults and $38 for ages 3-9. Disneyland Resort Paris is 27 euros ($23) for adults and 23 euros ($20) for children. Tokyo Disneyland is 5,500 yen ($41) for ages 18 and up, 4,800 yen ($36) for ages 12-17 and 3,700 yen ($28) for ages 4-11.

Lego land California

Lego land California

Growing up, did you ever wonder what exactly you could build with millions of Legos? Lego land park, which has over 30 million Lego bricks, is one answer. Located in Carlsbad, Calif., about 30 miles north of San Diego, Lego land is a 128-acre park that is a combination of rides and hands-on activities, aimed at children ages 2 to 12.

The highlight of the park is Mini land USA, which features reproductions of American landmarks such as the White House, the Golden Gate Bridge and the New York City skyline, built on 1:20 scale. You can't touch the models, but by pressing a button, you can do things like make the monkeys hop in Central Park. The park also has a safari trek, with life-sized giraffes, zebras and lions all built from Lego bricks, and a Lego factory tour. But there's more than just Lego gawking to be done at Legoland.

The park also has 50 rides (including three roller coasters) and a "clubhouse" where kids can take tips from Lego Master Model Builders (yes, these are adults who play with Legos all day). There's also a Lego Driving School where kids test their skills on faux city streets, and perhaps coolest of all is the Mind storms robotic sessions, where pre-teens can build and program their own robots in conjunction with MIT's Media Laboratory. There are also Lego lands in Billund, Denmark, and Windsor, England. A third Lego land, in Gunzburg, Germany, is under construction.

Admission is $39.95 for adults, $33.95 for children ages 3-16 and $33.95 for seniors.

Cedar Point

Cedar Point

If you're a roller coaster junkie and love that sinking, lurching feeling in the pit of your stomach, then Cedar Point is the place for you. The park has more roller coasters--15--and rides--68--than any other park in the world. This spring, the park will add the Wicked Twister, which claims to be the world's tallest. Riders will launch out of the station at 50 mph and up a 90-degree twisting tower. As the train slows near the top of the U-shaped track, riders experience "air time," the feeling of floating in air, before zooming up another tower and spiraling down...backward.

As if that's not enough, the train will go up and down the towers five times at a maximum speed of 72 mph, and twists 450 degrees. We suggest visiting the snack bar after the rides. Get the credit cards ready after the kids visit the "Peanuts" cartoon-themed rides and attractions, including the "Snoopy Rocks! On Ice" show and Camp Snoopy Theater. There is also an 18-acre water park area, called Soak City (admission is extra).

Prices vary depending on the day and time (discounts are given after 5 P.M.), but tickets to Cedar Point are $42 for ages 4-59 and those 48 inches or taller, and $20 for people under 48 inches. Admission to both parks is $59 and $39, respectively; for Soak City only, $23 and $13.

Discovery Cove

Discovery Cove

Discovery Cove in Orlando, Fla., is designed the way that theme parks should be, with no lines and limited admission. It also represents a new breed of theme park: upscale and small market. Only 1,000 people are allowed at a time into the park, which is built as a series of lagoons, coral reefs, rivers and white sand beaches.

The main attraction of Discovery Cove is interaction with animals. Guests can swim and play with bottle nose dolphins, snorkel through coral reefs and snorkel past 4-foot-wide stingrays. In one lagoon, sharks and barracudas are kept behind a clear acrylic partition so you feel as if you're swimming with them. Guests can also jump into the river and swim past the park's aviary.

The all-inclusive admission price is $199, which also includes a seven-day pass to Sea World Orlando. Admission without a dolphin swim ranges from $109 to $119.

Hershey park

Hershey park

Chocolate magnate Milton Hershey founded the town of Hershey, Pa., in 1903, and today it has become a Willy Wonka-type play land for children and adults, with golf courses, theme parks, zoos, streetlamps shaped like Hershey Kisses and a chocolate spa where you can get covered in cocoa.

A trip to Hersheypark should begin with a visit to Hershey's Chocolate World, which offers a tour of the chocolate-making process (and ends with a visit to a gift shop). Then burn off those candy bars at Hershey park, which has six water rides, 20 kiddy rides and eight roller coasters. The Great Bear roller coaster is an inverted steel coaster that loops and twists at 61 mph, and riders who barrel down the Tidal Force flume reach 50 mph. The Roller Soaker, which will open in summer 2002, is a combination roller coaster-water rider and lets riders dump up to four gallons of water on spectators waiting to receive their revenge.

Admission to Hershey park also offers access to Zoo America, an 11-acre walk-through zoo that was once Hershey's personal zoo. Adults will want to book a room at the Mediterranean-style Hotel Hershey, which is based on Hershey's mansion. The spa offers treatments such as the Whipped Cocoa Bath, Chocolate Fondue Wrap and a Cocoa Butter Scrub, all of which prove that chocolate really is good for you.

Admission to Hershey park is $19.95 for children ages 3-8, $34.95 for ages 9-54, and $19.95 for 55-69.
